韩国蔚山IBS多维碳材料中心(IBS-CMCM)招收博士后/博士研究员

Organization Description

The IBS Center for Multidimensional Carbon Materials is located in a new building at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), nestled in a beautiful area near the port cities of Ulsan and Busan. The center supports a talented international team of highly collaborative researchers that design, synthesize and study new forms of carbon and related materials, many of which are expected to have exceptional physical and electronic properties.

I. Job Description (Synthesis)

We are searching for postdoctoral or doctoral researchers who will be involved in chemical vapor synthesis of carbon nanomaterials and 2D materials.

Successful candidates will work under the supervision of distinguished Prof. Feng Ding, research will be geared toward fundamental science, such as developing the potential routes towards chirality selection during carbon nanotube synthesis, controlled synthesis of 2D materials and understanding their growth mechanisms. The researchers will be able to interact with world-class scientists from diverse fields and have access to state-of-the-art research instruments.

The eligible candidate should have

  • PhD or Master degree in suitable field, such as physics, chemistry, materials science

  • Be highly motivated

  • Good written and oral communication skills in English

  • Experience in carrying out independent research and working in a team environment

  • Experience of writing high level scientific publications

  • Previous experience in CVD and nanomicroscopy (AFM, SEM) is an advantage

II. Job Description (Simulation)

Successful candidates will work under the supervision of distinguished Prof. Feng Ding, the work will be involved in simulations focusing on the following fields:

  1. Multi-scale computational methods development for materials science, including global structure searching and/or transition state searching, classical and semi-empirical potential energy surfaces, kinetic Monte Carlo algorithms, coarse grained algorithms, phase field theory, etc.

  2. Application of machine learning in materials science, including the development of artificial neural network (ANN) potentials and material prediction by machine learning, etc.

  • The growth mechanism of low dimensional materials at atomic level and multi-scales, including (i) the formation mechanism of fullerenes from gas phases; (ii) the mechanisms of carbon nanotube (CNT) growth and the potential routes towards chirality selection during CNTs synthesis; (iii) the mechanism of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth of graphene and other 2D materials; (iv) the mechanism of diamond CVD growth, (iv) the mechanism of nanowire’s CVD and self-catalyzed CVD growth, etc.

  • The structural defects, mechanical, thermal, electronic properties of CNTs, graphene and other 2D materials.

Applicants for research fellow positions are required to have a broad knowledge in one or a few of the following fields: physics, chemistry, materials science, mechanical engineering. Experiences of computational algorithms development and coding experiences will be advantageous.
